A Missouri Lottery player in Independence didn’t originally plan to buy a “Cash Box Bingo” Scratchers ticket, but he was certainly glad he did after uncovering one of the game’s $55,558 top prizes.

“I don’t normally play the Bingo ticket. When I went to pick up my usual tickets, which is the Crosswords, the clerk only had five of those,” the winner explained. “So he asked, ‘Do you want the Bingo tickets?’ I said, ‘Ok, I’ll take five of those.’”

He didn’t know it yet, but he would soon discover how lucky that decision was.

“The last puzzle I scratched I saw I had four corners. I thought, ‘Oh, I won $3,000.’ But I didn’t realize I had the “X” crisscross,” he shared. “When they checked my ticket at the office, they were rather excited. It was worth $55,558!”

His winning ticket was purchased at Price Chopper, 16611 E. 23rd St., in Independence.

“I probably need to thank the guy at Price Chopper!” he laughed.

To date, players have won more than $4.9 million in prizes playing the $3 “Cash Box Bingo” Scratchers game, with more than $6.3 million in prizes yet to be claimed – including two additional $55,558 top prizes.

In FY25, Jackson County players won more than $96.8 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $8.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $31.6 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
